Since the inaugural forum in 2006, this popular event has been held approximately every 9 months.
Hosted by the IVNNZ Inc. executive committee, and made possible by sponsorship from our corporate members, these forums are an opportunity for nurses specialising and/or working with intravenous therapy (who commonly work autonomously) to brain storm and discuss topics in relation to clinical issues in the arena of intravenous therapy.
To attend this forum there is no charge for IVNNZ Inc. members, the cost to non-members is $50. Your registration includes relevant printed resources and full catering.
The theme of this forum will be 'Online learning - National collabroration'.
The forum will also include an address from the international keynote speaker attending conference
The forum will be held the day before the 13th National Conference at the conference venue, Holiday Inn Hotel, Whakarewarewa, Rotorua.

PICC Workshop Information
PICC Level One Workshop
Covering all aspects of Anatomy, Insertion, Care, Maintenance, Complications, and a Simulated Practical Demonstration.
The educational component covers the following topics:
- Defining Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters, midclavicular and midline catheters
- Indications – advantages, disadvantages, indications for placement amd contraindications
- Anatomy and physiology update – inflammation, blood flow, characteristics of blood – osmolarity, pH, coagulation
- Nursing care and maintenance of the PICC
- Complication related to Intravenous Therapy – phlebitis, infection, post insertion – how to identify, minimise and prevent
- Patient teaching – informed consent, before and after insertion, self monitoring
- Intravenous therapy quiz
- PICC insertion and demonstration (by a qualified PICC inserter) or insertion video
- PICC dressing and statlock change
- Blood sampling from a PICC line, incl flushing technique
- IV Product review
